Real Monday mc also macam chao keng

Yes I said it. Even though you might be sleeping on the floor beside Death's bed, people's first thought is 'Chao Keng' or skive. Second thought would then be 'Long weekend hor, sibeh good idea' and then next Monday will be their turn.
Since I mentioned death's bed, side story coming up. My favourite Death character is the one from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. He didn't actually need a bed, He just had one so that He could try to relate to humans.
he speaks in small caps, makes you imagine reading a booming voice in your head
Here is the order to enjoy his books, and many a times have I laughed out loud in public transport just by reading them. Most of our libraries will carry a couple of his novels, so do borrow one to start reading. I dare say that I have picked up the joy of writing by trying, and not succeeding in any way, to replicate his writing style.

May you rest in peace Sir Terence David John Pratchett OBE (28 April 1948 – 12 March 2015). You are an inspiration, a motivation and an institution all by yourself. I will be purchasing and displaying the full set of the Discworld series once I move into my own home. No jokes here, his books are beyond awesome!

As I was saying, reporting sick. The unfortunate stigma of taking mc on Monday is that people associate it with Monday blues, instead of you being actually ill. Then again, with most clinics seeing more than double the number of patients on a Monday morning, it does lend some credence to that misconception.
imagine you trying to fake an mc
But of course, not all doctors are like that, some are actually sympathetic and choose to diagnose you with the benefit of (Monday) doubt. My personal doctor takes his treatment really seriously, and I'm so thankful he also almost always ignores the strong alcohol smell that engulfs his consultation room when I'm there.
if doctors kept it real
I can totally imagine a no nonsense doctor telling this to you should nothing be found wrong and you just need the mc to sleep the day away. That would totally suck. And hilarious too if you needed a water cooler story.

Of course, some doctors will actually find something wrong with you, even though you thought you were: (a) there cos you keng or (b) having a yearly checkup. This is where a lot of tact and light humour will do wonders to lessen the blow of bad news.
i bet the smile helps too
Of course I would never wish for anyone to be of ill-health. Good health is more important than all the wealth in the world. If you are terminally unwell, ridiculously rich, and was touched to tears by my well wishes, pm me for my bank account so that I can literally show you that all that wealth in your world didn't make you any happier. And if you feel happy seeing others happy, what are you waiting for with that pm?

So then doctors would ask more questions to determine how any current conditions came about, and I recall what was recently asked of me during the blood donation (refer to earlier post on squirting nurses).
honesty isn't always the best policy
The cute doctor was probably sniggering inside when I was describing my non-existent sex life, albeit in a slightly different conversation from above. Although in my head, I imagined her asking me in a way that overlooks her appearance and highlights her professional qualifications.
I wouldn't have dared said this out loud though, kind of why my blood is ridiculously safe for blood transfusion, apart from the high alcohol content. Oh woe betide me. This is where I am looking for female volunteers to assist the doctor in the diagnosis. Anyone?

So to conclude, unless you are really unwell on Mondays, try to avoid taking that mc. And if you still decide to get one, at least take for 2 days to make it a shitload more believable.

Chasing away those Monday blues

It's Monday once again, or as office workers all over the world describe it: What? Already?!

For the one person who has followed my blog in sequence; yes you, you wonderful stranger, I ended my last post heading into another night of drinks. So while I would like to have materials about such a night, all I can do is recommend the venue I was at. If you like KTV pubs with Chinese / Cantonese songs being belted out all night long, have a go at Room of Mellis located at South Bridge Road. Erm and if you see their link, they have really pretty SG ladies working there too. 😍😍😍

I didn't really take many pictures since I was busy enjoying their Happy Hour beer promo which lasted till 8.30pm. Being the cheapo that I am, I did my utmost best to finish my first tower before HH ended, so that I could get a second one at the same price.
can you blame me?
This of course did not put me in good stead with neither the lovely staff who helped me reserve the table since she doesn't earn commission at HH, nor the owners who think beers should be guzzled when it's at normal price. Of course, they do appreciate me turning up to drink really often, hence I have not been thrown out of the place yet. And as all my friends know, I only head down regularly because of the cheap beer and beautiful decor.
the lion has 2 eyes, just that i was aiming for the lights
Absolutely nothing to do with any of the eye candy working there. Really.

Saturday. I slept. A lot. The end.

Sunday morning I dragged myself awake to play a few games of football with my usual kakis at Bt Batok. I can't give away the location since it's a basketball court and technically we are playing the wrong game. And when I say play, I pretty much strolled around trying to get a tan and perspire to reduce my ever increasing waistline.
old picture, some have since retired
One thing that this picture did not capture is that the place also has sheltered seating. Sheltered seating. So when the weather got too hot, we could hide in the shade and recuperate a little bit. At the peak of our attendance, we had the option to play 'Winner rests'. So it motivates you to win the game and take a breather. Losing gets you extra playing time in scorching heat, we all tried our best to win.

However, only 6 of us turned up, and one was a 60 year old uncle (former professional player no less) but there was only so much running we could do. Bear in mind this was the first game after Christmas 2016 for a few of us. Me, I meant me. So the game ended early and I had the chance to beat the queue for the lunch of my choice.

A very happy shout out to Soi19 Thai Wanton Mee! Thanks for opening a branch at Jurong East Blk 130, just beside the CPF building. The queue thankfully isn't as long as the one at AMK, so my tired, weakened and shaking legs didn't have to hold out for too long.
apologies for the tops of heads, my arms were tired too
Maybe because it was before 12pm, I managed to grab a bowl of noodles (Large for $5), a separate order of wanton soup ($3.50), and still have ample seats to choose from. So I had ample space to do what all foodies do, Instagram my meal. (Blatant advertising coming right up)

erm, be my follower? please please
Then something thoroughly amused me. I received this comment from another user.

soccer or the noodles?
I mean I know my soccer session was breath-taking, not due to my skills but cos I was really out of breath. But to describe this bowl of wanton noodles as breathtaking, National Geographic, sign me up. I mean come on la, simi sai. You want more followers also at least comment in context leh. Wah biang.

So that's pretty much Sunday cos thereafter I was comatose until this morning. And while I was struggling to not curse and swear on the MRT, I came across a few memes by The Trollercoaster that made my morning commute a lot better.
To conclude, I hope your weekend was a lot more eventful than mine, and your Monday a bit better after reading my ramblings.

TBT Monday JB Trip

So in order to beat the dreaded Monday Blues, a couple of friends and I decided a day trip to JB is the most ideal way to ignore work.

The view where we headed to a 3 times currency advantage

Admittedly, I didn't take any other pictures there since I did not connect to wifi and thus had no chance to upload anything to my Instagram account, so I just decided to screw it. But I shall recount what a chillax guys day out means.

We got in via Second Link, where there was no traffic due to it being a Monday afternoon and also perhaps the new MYR20 charge on foreign vehicles entering Malaysia played a part. The destination of choice was AEON Bukit Indah (find their link here) for a money changer with a decent exchange rate, budget shops which are even cheaper than the local DAISOs in SG.

Also, we had a really good lunch at Souper Tang (read all about them here), which also has an outlet on our shores at the newly revamped CentrePoint. For the drinks, it's served in a tall tumbler, which is enough for 3 guys, so I think one is enough. Also, we didn't get to try the Souper Tang Plum Tea, which was sold out shortly after lunch hour started!

After getting our shopping loot; my personal stash for everything and still was under S$20 were 2 t-shirts (S$6 each), 4 pairs of ankle socks (S$0.80 per pair), a container resembling a metal dustbin as my piggy bank (S$$1.70) and a small pouch for my foreign currency (S$1.70), the next item on our itinerary was of course a massage.

Personally I like going to Thai Relax Massage which is just across the road. You can't go too far wrong with a 90min massage costing a mere MYR93. That's less than S$30 for 1.5 hours. Plus, I have never once been offered 'Special' services, so it's very ideal for couples to go together too. Oh and if you chose a different package of a shorter time, they have free wifi for you to text or play your games.

Sutera Mall (and it's surrounding shophouses)

I am sharing the article by goodyfeed as it's really a hidden gem of a mall. Granted, it's a little older and slightly run down in some areas, but there are also a ton of shophouses nearby where you can get really good food at decent prices (obviously based on our currency exchange rate).

Do bear in mind that if you keep commenting "So cheap!" or other similar themed comments, you will just attract dirty stares from the locals since the prices have already gone up compared to 5-10 years ago. Just enjoy the benefits without pissing off the locals, they are spending in their currency, so while S$3k equates to MYR9k, the locals might be earning MYR3k, which means the food and drinks might be pricey for them, no thanks to us.

All in all, I beat the Monday Blues with a day trip to JB, but currently I'm having Tuesday Blues so that sucks.
