Beers, a Unicorn and Whiskey

Right, so this has been an overdue post, and as such would probably take more time to read. Since you might need to read it slowly, I will also type slowly to match your pace.

First off, let me share with you why this post was delayed. It's all due to a magical and wonderful event called ICT, or reservist. The joy and elation I felt during these two weeks can't just be described, it has to be shown.
feel the joy!
Although I should not be the one to be bitching too much since my vocation is but of a measly Storeman. I was also going through make-up training, so the workload was reduced. We did, however, have to support the unit's ATEC, and while most information is classified, I can say that we were needed to collect and dispatch some metal dinghies, which needed 18 pax to carry. Then we had to wait for over 8 hours in a godforsaken area, with no light, no wind but plenty of mosquitoes. Plus I managed to get a bad back and a shoulder sprain since there was only a concrete floor for us to sit on. I hate getting too old for reservist.
nice view though

Totally unrelated, but check out this remix versions of techno with EDM. I should have had this on infinite loop during that boat carrying exercise.

I'm not brave enough to take pictures of classified equipment, thus it's a no no from me. Plus I only have 1 last ICT high key to clear, dun feel like getting charged for posting selfies on social media. I can however, post a selfie from some exercise we had to conduct in the middle of ATEC, cos again, nice scenery.

dun ask me why I'm in civilian, that's also classified

But anyways this ICT is done and dusted, and it's back to the real world. And yes, that means booze.

During the first weekend, I found some time to sample various F&B stuff not available in camp. Most importantly, I got to try out a wide sampling of craft beers at TAP Craft Beer Singapore. This is located at level 1 of the refurbished Capitol, and I promise to head back there more often. Their menu changes periodically, which means if you make a trip down this week, the very next week could be a whole different range altogether. And if your visits are too far apart, you might just miss out on a few complete ranges of their beers!

I think Thursdays are your best bet for heading down. The beers are only $10++ per pint, and they also have free flow Spam Fries! That's luncheon meat cut into wedges, for the uninitiated. We also had the 4 cups sampler set, so we could order more without getting plastered early on. Although, 女人不醉,男人没机会 (lady stays sober, guy's lonely boner), so I was hoping my date was a lot thirstier. Sadly she didn't order more beer.

We did try out their desserts, which were essentially Ice Cream Floats. A little too sweet for my liking, but it's great for those who love sweets and alcohol. A perfect mix of teeth aching goodness. Do head down though, and if you recognise me from my blog, dun be a stranger and come say hi. With a sampler of 4 for me in your hand. Otherwise, just wave from your table.

To clear away the alcohol in the system the next day, first rule is to not have any alcohol. But there was also this Instagram worthy cafe with the most adorable cakes. If you've always had the desire to sink your teeth into a Unicorn (you sick bastard), look no further than Boufe Boutique Cafe.

Located at Phoenix Park, which I think used to be an old Police Camp along Tanglin Rd, it's ideal for drivers since the parking is free and not many places serve beer. Plus they close early so you still have a chance to head towards town for a second round of food.
I have to admit, these are just pure works of art. So damn adorable, we didn't even know where to begin! Look through their menu, and you'll figure out the names of the other 2 cakes. I said the other 2 because the unicorn would be the white one with the horn.

Taste test: I dun like all three.

I wanted to bring my niece, but she would have eaten just the super sweet exterior. All three had a unique filling in the middle, which did not mix well and definitely did not suit my fancy. We struggled to finish all three cakes, and they were small. This is the very definition of "Eh Kwa Buay Gan" (all form no substance). But dun just take my word for it, make your way down to give it a go. Your palate might be stupidly wrong different from mine and you might enjoy it way more than me.

Luckily, one of my many cousins was celebrating his birthday with a light drink at Quaich Whiskey Bar. Took my mind off that overly sweet tea break. Friendly staff, cosy ambience and a lot of Whiskey options, this is a fantastic chillax place to hang out. Plus you can order food from the nearby Jap restaurants, and they'll gladly deliver it right to your seat.

We started the night with his usual purchase.

It's easy on the palate, and can simply be served chilled. they do of course serve proper whiskey glass ice, at least for the first pour. They also provide plenty of water/club soda and ice should you need to add a non-interfering mixer to lighten the taste. Try ordering green tea as a mixer, I dun think I have seen them throw anyone out of the place yet, but hey, if you like to be the first at something.

My cousin also brought along a bottle which I could only describe the taste as heavenly.
FWAH
Of course, corkage will be charged, so dun bother bringing in your cheap whiskeys. This Bunnahabhain had a very pronounced lingering after-taste, and I really wished I took the bottle home. Oh and it was expensive so definitely worth the corkage. If you log in to Quaich Bar's Facebook page, they do have membership details where you are able to get a lot of awesome freebies right from the start, not to mention really preferential rates when you make future purchases.

I did have a small party to attend for a bit, and had to abandon my cousin for a while. He had 4 other friends there so I dun even think he noticed I was gone. As usual, I was also the life of the new party.
look at how fun I can be
Thereafter, I was not asked to join this new group at their second round (maybe due to the fun way I was looking at my phone the whole time), and I rejoined my cousin for all of 10 minutes before he headed home. It was a good night nonetheless, happy birthday Cuz!

Well, this ends my post on the last 2 weeks, I hope me typing slowly helped with the  reading involved. You're welcome.

Signing off,
KJ

Fun Fact: This morning a man came by asking for a donation towards the local swimming pool. I gave him a glass of water.
